On the evening of June 03, your Elders and Deacons gathered eagerly for their quarterly “joint” meetings, exercising their vows to shepherd and care for the church, according to the BCO and our gospel-driven mission. The significance of our time was marked by prayer for our members, visitors, and special needs and upcoming events. Another high priority was discussing our initiatives to foster worship, discipleship, and mutual helps among the body.
The following are just a few other highlights of the Session meeting.
- Servanthood Matters. Scott Phillips led a discussion from Mark 10:35-45 on the topic of servant-leadership – its practice and motives. What IF we all attempted to out-serve one another? Do people leave our building feeling they have been served well? “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them… But it shall not be so among you. Whoever would be great among you must be your servant… For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
- Summer Ministries for Youth & Family.Tucker Fleming reported on the many opportunities for deeper (fun-ner) connections: “Summer Fun Days” for moms, VBS Craft Night, VBS, Reformed Youth Conference, plus a variety of events every Wednesday night for teens. “[T]hat you may know what is the hope to which he has called you…” Eph.1:18.
- Men’s Ministry. Rick Stark reported on the success of the latest Iron Man Night and led the Session in a discussion about forming a men’s ministry committee for the purpose of accelerating and broadening the gathering and discipling of men. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations…” Matt.28:19.
- Officer Training. Scott Phillips reviewed the candidates nominated for the office of elder and deacon, and led in a discussion about what Officer Training might entail. The current officers were encouraged to participate and invest in the development of our future officers. “If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task,” 1 Tim.3:1.
- Architectural Committee. Scott Phillips submitted a short list of names and led in a discussion about how each of these could represent the various ministries of the church well and make important contributions in shaping the architect’s precision in the design of a new sanctuary. “Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary,” Psalm 96:6.
