Decatur Presbyterian Church of Decatur, AL » Session Highlights

From Rick:

On March 04, your Elders gathered jointly with the Deacons in order to exercise our unity and vows in governing and serving Christ’s church, in accordance to the BCO and our gospel-driven mission.

One critical turning point in the life of our church was having our new Administrative Director, Jesse Pawley, help us shift gears in more effective use of technology for information, organization, and communication!

After the Deacons reported on their work, the Elders entered into the Session meeting eager to pray for our members, visitors, special needs, the unchurched and de-churched, etc…

The following are just a few other highlights of the Session meeting.

  • Shepherding. Rick Stark led in a review of the Shepherding Lists, whereby each member has assurance that they have an Elder/Deacon “running point” for their spiritual care. We discussed the responsibilities of the Elder and planned Shepherding List lunches during the Summer and Fall 2024.

“Shepherd the flock that is among you, exercising oversight” (1 Pet.5:2)… and we will!

  • Ministry Reports. Connor Ross/Tucker Fleming on Nursery, NextGen, Youth; Brian Rodgers/Rick Stark on U.S./Local/World Missions; Mike McMahan on the plans of the Women’s Retreat, Bible studies, Flourish;  Allen Schmidt/George Godwin on Worship music; Rick Stark on Small Groups, Life Groups, Ironman, etc…

“Go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19-20) and we will!

  • Worship. Scott Phillips led in an evaluation of the strategy of 2 morning services – the temporary inconveniences and snafus are real and we continue to find solutions – but worth it in view of the bigger goal and vision. More are coming and there’s plenty of room to grow! How grateful we are to all, especially families who are pulled in multiple directions in order to serve in music, choirs, and nursery.

“the Father is seeking such people to worship…” (Jn.4:23)… and we will too!
